  • A run is a string of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit, whereas a set is made up of three or four cards of the same rank. Depending on the variation being played, each player starts the game with a certain number of cards. With the top card turned face up to begin the discard pile, the remaining cards form the draw pile, arranged face down. Players alternately draw a card from each pile & then toss one out of their hands. A player does not declare Rummy until they have formed all of their cards into sets and runs.
