2025 WSOP Main Event Poker

A tradition unlike any other — a player busting early in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event on Day 1.

The first of four starting flights kicked off at noon PT on Wednesday from Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas in the $10,000 world championship event.

Poker Hall of Famer Billy Baxter announced "shuffle up and deal" just 45 minutes before the first elimination from the most prestigious tournament in poker.

Poker Player's World Title Dream Shattered in an Instant

Lauren Hazelgreen, a New Jersey resident and general manager of a Wawa convenience store, was eliminated from the Main Event at around 12:45 p.m. PT, as captured by PokerNewslive reporter Dan O'Hair.

Jamar Adams raised to 600 from under the gun and was called by Hazelgreen from the cutoff with AJand Kevin Gerhart on the button. Pedro Garagnani, holding 1010, then squeezed to 3,200 from the small blind, and everyone called for an already bloated four-way pot.

The flop came out 10J4. Action checked to Hazelgreen, who flopped top pair and bet 6,500. Gerhart folded, but Garagnani check-raised to 23,000, which got a quick fold from Adams. Hazelgreen moved all in and Garagnani snap-called with a set and a slightly bigger stack.

Hazelgreen found herself desperate to hit a runner-runner for a full house or straight. But the 6on the turn sealed her fate. The Aon the river to give her two pair was irrelevant. Garagnani won a massive pot to take an early chip lead at 128,000 chips, more than double the 60,000-chip starting stack.

Each Day 1 flight — and there are four of them — will play five levels of 120 minutes. Players begin with 300 big blinds in this marathon world championship event. Four other players would bust shortly after Hazelgreen's elimination. There were 693 players registered, at the time of publishing.

Last year's Main Event had a string of first-hand eliminations. It took a bit longer on Day 1a this year.
