Montenegrin player Aleksa Pavicevic captured the $200,000 Triton Invitational title at Maestral Resort & Casino, outlasting a record 133-player field to win $6,180,000.

The final table seemed destined for a long night, until two eliminations in two hands set up heads-up play in dramatic fashion.

With short-stacked Seth Davies looking on, Pavicevic and Javid Ismayilov clashed in a massive aces-versus-kings cooler. A king on the turn flipped the script, sending Ismayilov to the rail and propelling Pavicevic into the lead. He quickly dispatched Davies to seal the victory.

Davies earned $4,190,000 for second place - the biggest score of his career.

"I decided a week ago that I as going to play," Pavicevic said following his win. "I didn't expect much. I just came for kind of a vacation, and honestly expected to bust maybe four levels in.

"I come here every summer, I love this resort and I love the people here. And since Day 1 I've got it hundred times a day 'Good luck, you're going to win this thing!' And I know there's 100 people and it's 1% this happens. But it seems like destiny."

Heads-up came quicker than expected thanks to an aces versus kings cooler against Javid Ismayilov, someone who Pavicevic had played a lot with earlier in the tournament.

"We played together for the whole of Day 1, and were jokingly saying 'See you heads-up'. And then yesterday we were chip leaders, so it became more realistic. And then [today] we get kings in against aces. The whole thing happened in seconds."

Triton Invitational Final Day Recap

Just eleven players returned for the final day of the Triton Invitational. Montenegro’s own Dejan Kaladjurdjevic, runner-up in the 2024 Triton Montenegro Main Event, was the first to fall. He found himself short after running pocket jacks into Ramin Hajiyev’s kings, then busted to the same player shortly after.

Seth Davies, the start-of-day short stack, staged a quick comeback by doubling through Joseph Oren twice, cracking aces with a flopped set the second time. Oren exited in tenth, setting the official final table.

The chip leaders at the final table were the same as at the start of the day, with Javid Ismayilov leading from Aleksa Pavicevic, and Eric Wasserson in third.

Short-stacked Thomas Santerne was the first final table casualty, busting in ninth when his ace-queen couldn’t improve against Maher Nouira’s jacks. Eighth place went to Joni Jouhkimainen, who three-bet shoved ace-queen from the big blind into Ismayilov’s ace-king. A queen on the flop gave Jouhkimainen hope, but a king on the turn sealed his fate.

Ismayilov remained in control as Wasserson eliminated Hajiyev in seventh. Six-handed play dragged on until Nouira was finally sent to the rail in sixth.

Despite his early dominance, Ismayilov began to lose momentum after a costly misstep against Pavicevic. He three-bet preflop with nine-six offsuit, then paid off a large river bet only to see Pavicevic reveal a rivered two pair and snatch the chip lead.

Five became four when Taylor von Kriegenbergh busted in fifth to Ismayilov. Soon after, Wasserson exited in fourth, calling a blind-on-blind shove from Pavicevic but failing to come out ahead.

A Mammoth Confrontation

On the very next hand, Ismayilov picked up A♥A♦in the cutoff and opened to 750,000 with the blinds at 125,000/250,000. Pavicevic held K♦K♣on the button and three-bet to 1,750,000.

Davies, who sat with 13 big blinds, quickly folded and Ismayilov shoved. Pavicevic called, and suddenly a 145 big blind confrontation was underway. The 4♦4♠J♥looked like Pavicevic was going to be left with just two big blinds. But the K♥on the turn quickly flipped things around, and the 3♣river saw Pavicevic take a massive heads-up chip lead.

Heads-Up Play

Davies would manage two doubles — first with jack-ten and the second with jacks as he looked to overcome an 11:1 chip deficit. Another double with jack-ten, dodging flush outs from Pavicevic got the stacks practically level, before the final hand of the tournament.

In a limped pot, Davies held K♥3♦and checked the K♦7♥3♠flop. Pavicevic held 5♥2♥and checked back. The turn was the A♥and Davies check-raised Pavicevic's bet of 800,000 to 3,600,000.

Pavicevic called and Davies bet 2,400,000 on the river. Pavicevic shoved and Davies tank-called for his tournament life.

"I've got it," said Pavicevic, whose 5♥2♥had rivered a flush, earning him the pot and the title.
