The top card is positioned face up next to it to begin the discard pile, & the remaining cards are arranged face down on the table to form the draw pile. Forming appropriate sets and sequences of cards & declaring or melding them before your opponents is the aim of the game. Three or four cards of the same rank but different suits make up a set, whereas three or more consecutive cards of the same suit make up a sequence.
