Early discarding of high-point cards can be helpful if you think you have a good chance of winning the game, but it might be wise to keep those high-point cards until you can meld them or until you are out of options if you think your opponent is about to win. If you have two sevens & a joker, for example, you can use the joker to finish a set of three sevens or, if it fits into a sequence, you can even use it in a run. Wild cards, however, should only be used sparingly even though they can be very helpful. You risk missing out on opportunities if you hold onto wild cards for too long and don't meld them before another player goes out. You should also exercise caution when discarding wild cards because you might unintentionally help an opponent finish their melds.
