Poker Bad Beat Jackpot

Poker players inside Quebec, Canada's Casino du Lac-Leamy poker room celebrated when a bad beat jackpot was set off on Wednesday that gave everyone in the room a share of the CAD $2.5 million (approximately $1.81 million USD) pot.

The $1/$3 no-limit hold'em hand made some history as it ranks as the second largest poker bad beat jackpot ever. Both of the biggest ones have taken place in Canada, with the record jackpot having occurred at Playground, also in Quebec, in August 2023. That one paid CAD $2.6 million ($1.87 million USD) when quad 10's lost to a straight flush on the river.

Playground is also home to the now third largest BBJ in history — CAD $2.2 million ($1.59 million USD) — when quad 9's lost to quad aces in a $2/$5 game in October 2024. But that hand is now third on the all-time list thanks to an epic pot that occurred two days ago at a competing casino.

Poker Bad Beat Jackpot

The bad beat jackpot rules at the OK Poker Lounge inside Casino du Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, a Quebec town near Ottawa, state that quad 10's or better must lose the hand. Both cards must be used from each player to qualify.

The board showed 9K10J10. One player turned over 1010for quads, and the other revealed Q9for a straight flush, setting off the bad beat jackpot.

Lac-Leamy's BBJ calls for 40% of the pot going to the player with the losing hand, 20% to the hand winner, 20% evenly spread among those at the table, and the remaining 20% evenly split among everyone else seated in a poker game at the time the BBJ occurred.

In this case, there were a total of 46 players across five tables seated. The player with quads received CAD $1,005,421 (USD $726,000), while the player with the straight flush was paid CAD $502,711 (USD $363,000). Table share among the six others in the game went for CAD $84,000 (USD $60,000), and the other 38 players in the room took home CAD $13,000 (USD $9,400) a piece.

A poker player on Reddit shared a couple of photos taken (see feature image) from the BBJ celebration. The poster ("ZiOnized") said he'd just sat down at a nearby table a minute before the bad beat jackpot popped.
